    Maps Report an Issue & Privacy

    Reports related to your Home, Work, and School and certain reports related to Look Around and photos in Maps are associated with your Apple Account or email address, which will be shown on the screen before you submit your report. Your data will be used to resolve the reported issue and improve Maps.
     

    Apple Maps is designed to protect your information and enable you to choose what you share.

    • Maps Report an Issue collects information to help solve reported issues. Information collected for certain reports related to your Home, Work, and School, blurring Look Around imagery, and photos in Maps is stored in association with your Apple Account. Before you submit those reports your Apple Account will be shown on the screen during the submission flow. All other reports are associated with an identifier that rotates regularly and is not linked to your Apple Account.
    • If you submit a report using Apple Maps on the web, Apple may collect your email address with your report in order to maintain the integrity of the service.
    • You may submit additional information with your report to help solve the issue more effectively.
    • Apple may store the information associated with your Apple Account or email address for up to two years to better understand reporting trends, and for up to five years for certain reports.

    When you report an issue, Maps is designed to collect the minimum necessary personal data to assess your report and improve Maps.

    Apple may collect the following information:

    • The device model, operating system version, region and language, time and time zone, Maps settings, and whether you are connected to Apple Watch or CarPlay, in order to better understand Maps’ capability and state at the time of your report
    • An image of your view of the map prior to filing the issue, the zoom level, and the last search term you used, in order to better understand the context at the time of the reported issue. Information that may identify you, such as the icon indicating the location of your home, is not included in this image
    • Your location
    • The information you provide in the report, such as suggested new addresses, URLs, opening hours along with comments, and any uploaded photos

    In some cases, Apple may also collect:

    • Your Apple Account, including your email address, when you report an issue related to the location of your Home, Work, or School, request to blur Look Around imagery, or report a copyright issue related to a photo in Maps. If you submit a request to blur Look Around imagery using Apple Maps on the web, Apple will collect your email address in order to maintain the integrity of the service. Before you submit these reports, your Apple Account or email address will be shown on the screen during the submission flow. Additionally, for reports that include your Apple Account or email address, Apple may communicate with you by email to clarify the issue or notify you of a fix. All other reports are associated with an identifier that rotates regularly and is not linked to your Apple Account
    • Your home, work, or school address, for Home, Work, or School location corrections
    • The direction and angle of your view in Look Around, for imagery issues
    • Your route, including the start and endpoints of your trip, for navigation issues
    • The results from your most recent searches, including the search terms that were used to provide those results, for search-related issues
    • Other information you choose to submit in your report, including any comments or photos

    When your issue relates to a third party, Apple may provide the third party with information from your reported issue to help fix the issue you identified. Apple shares information with such third parties only when necessary to fix an issue and first seeks to delete any information from which you can be identified.

    Applicable Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

    We process your personal data for Maps Report an Issue generally as necessary for providing the service and to comply with our legal obligations. Where consent is the appropriate legal basis, we seek it in accordance with applicable local law. Where applicable local law provides, we process reports relating to copyright issues for purposes of our legitimate interests so that we can defend, establish, and exercise legal claims.

    Retention

    Data collected by Apple may be processed and stored by trusted service providers. The information you report may be stored in a manner that is associated with you for up to two years, and for certain copyright-related reports for up to five years or as required by law, to maintain the integrity of the service, understand reporting trends, and comply with applicable law.

    At all times, information collected by Apple will be treated in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy, which can be found at www.apple.com/privacy.
