There was a problem hiding this comment.
You can merge the two tests since they have code in common:
def test_cli_disable_lazy_imports(self):
code = textwrap.dedent("""
import sys
__lazy_modules__ = ["json"]
import json
if 'json' in sys.modules:
print("EAGER")
else:
print("LAZY")
""")
# -X lazy_imports=none should override __lazy_modules__
result = subprocess.run(
[sys.executable, "-X", "lazy_imports=none", "-c", code],
capture_output=True,
text=True,
)
self.assertEqual(result.returncode, 0, f"stderr: {result.stderr}")
self.assertIn("EAGER", result.stdout)
# PYTHON_LAZY_IMPORTS=none should override __lazy_modules__
env = dict(os.environ, PYTHON_LAZY_IMPORTS="none")
result = subprocess.run(
[sys.executable, "-c", code],
capture_output=True,
text=True,
env=env,
)
self.assertEqual(result.returncode, 0, f"stderr: {result.stderr}")
self.assertIn("EAGER", result.stdout)

When a regular import is in
__lazy_modules__,_PyEval_LazyImportNameis called withlazy = 0, because this is a regular import with nolazykeyword.The switch statement also sets it to zero, because we've set either
PYTHON_LAZY_IMPORTS=noneor-X lazy_imports=none.However, the first
ifstatement checks!lazy(true) and then checks if the import is in__lazy_modules__. Well, it is, so we treat it as lazy.Instead, we should skip this
ifstatement if we've set eitherPYTHON_LAZY_IMPORTS=noneor-X lazy_imports=none. These should override regular imports using the backwards compatibility dunder, just like they override thelazykeyword.With the fix, the override still works for eager:
And now also for the dunder (compare the issue):
PYTHON_LAZY_IMPORTS=noneignored for__lazy_modules__#146369
