For a quick refresher of Team RepTeam Rep A Team Rep is a person who represents the Make WordPress team to the rest of the project, make sure issues are raised and addressed as needed, and coordinates cross-team efforts. roles across the project, please see the Official Team Reps post on Team Updates.
Current Reps
The Test Team Reps for the 2025-2026 term are @nikunj8866 and @mosescursor.
The Role
Reps in the Test Team perform primary and secondary (or backup) duties to help support team chats, make updates to the team’s blog and handbook, remove blockers, keep a pulse on team objectives, and promote testing opportunities within the WordPress project.
As a reminder, Reps are not called “Team Leads” for a reason. While people elected as Team Reps generally come from the pool of folks that people think of as experienced leaders, the Team Rep role is designed to change hands regularly.
Test Team Rep duties include:
- Write weekly Test Team Update posts, and post to Team Updates.
- Write weekly Week in Test posts, and post to Make WordPress Test.
- Write agenda for bi-weekly
<test-chat>sessions (example). - Run alternating weekly
<test-chat>(example) and<patch-testing-scrub>(example) sessions in #core-test. - Write
<test-chat>session recaps, and post to Make WordPress Test. - Help raise awareness for testing needs, especially for upcoming releases.
- Raise issues or red flags that other teams should be aware of or discussing.
These duties are shared between the primary and secondary Reps (see Rep Responsibilities on the Team Rep page).
Qualifications
A Rep is an active team member who is reliable and trusted, advocates for and is knowledgeable of one or more areas of testing, and wants to represent, nurture, and grow the team to better serve the WordPress open sourceOpen Source Open Source denotes software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified. Open Source **must be** delivered via a licensing model, see GPL. project.
Test Team Reps must be committed to showing up and performing regular duties, and should expect a time commitment of at least 2-4 hours per week. Reps serve for a term of one year, and should swap their primary and secondary responsibilities after six months.
How Test Team Elections Work
Step 1: Call for Nominations
The first step is to reach out to the community with a Call for Nominations, such as these examples from 2024 and 2025. Nominations are held each August, with the new term starting by September.
Self-nominations are the primary way of getting into the elections list “I nominate for the Test Team Reps position.” Also other Team Members could nominate someone else “I nominate @username for the Test Team Reps position.” but the nominee must accept the nomination before the nomination period ends to be valid. Just answering to the Call for Nominations post is sufficient to nominate oneself or someone else.
Step 2: Criteria of Eligibility
Only active members of the Test Team are eligible to be nominated as Test Team Reps. An active member is someone who has done one, both, or a combination of the following activities:
- Lead at least three Test Team chats (with the corresponding write-ups posted to Make WordPress Test aftwerwards)
- Managed at least six Patch Testing Scrubs
For example: Leading 2 Test Team chats and managing 2 Patch Testing Scrubs would also qualify as an active member.
These eligibility requirements apply to contributions made within the 12 months prior to the nomination period. Not all Test Team Reps have to be technical experts, but they should have a good understanding of the testing processes and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members. For not tech savvy members, being able to lead Test Team chats is a good way to demonstrate communication skills, while for technical members, managing Patch Testing Scrubs is a good way to demonstrate technical expertise.
Step 3: Vote for Team Reps
An election to vote for the final Test Team Reps will happen only if there are more than two accepted nominations within the nomination period; otherwise the nominees will become the new Test Team Reps.
If held, the election should be conducted by an anonymous poll (2025 example). The poll should remain open for two weeks.
Only Test Team Contributors votes will be counted. Each voter can select up to two candidates. The two candidates with the highest number of votes will become the new Test Team Reps.
Step 4: Announce Team Reps
Once uncontested nominations have been accepted, or in the event of an election the voting period has passed, the new Test Team Reps should be announced in a post, such as this example from 2025.
