WordPress Origin Story

I started my web development journey in 2008 as a Flash ActionScript developer. It didn’t take long to hit a ceiling — the learning resources were limited, and growth felt almost impossible.

In 2009, I shifted to PHP. It was better, but I kept rebuilding the same things over and over: user systems, content modules, file uploads, basic CRUD operations. After a while, it felt repetitive and dull.

Everything changed when a friend asked me to build a WordPress theme. That was the first time I saw how much WordPress already handled out of the box — things I had been writing from scratch for months. It immediately clicked. The workflow was faster, the ecosystem was richer, and it opened a path that felt meaningful.

From that point on, I moved fully into WordPress plugin development and built my entire career around it. For years, I focused solely on client work and products, never finding the time to contribute back to the community.

That changed in 2025.

This year, I finally stepped into the Make WordPress world — joining Documentation Team meetings, helping with issue triage, contributing to Gutenberg scrubs, submitting my first Core PRs, earning my Documentation badge, and now receiving my Core Contributor badge and being listed as a Core Contributor to WordPress 6.9.

Seventeen years later, I can finally say I’m contributing to the platform that shaped my career — and I’m just getting started.
