I posted about my site not appearing in searches and received an email from a

Professional Web Developer and WordPress SEO specialist

as his email said. It has links (I didn’t click) but I’ve looked a few profiles of people on forums and no email addresses are there.

Is this normal (100% no, I’m thinking) and how did he get my email, given that my site is not appearing on searches (with my email on it as it’s a business)??

  • Your email is listed on your website, which is listed in your WP profile here. That’s the most simple way of them getting it.

While it’s not something that’s allowed here, there’s not much that can be done to stop it from happening.

But keep in mind that it also might not be someone from these forums. Bots’ scrape websites for email addresses and sell those to SPAM’ers and they send out millions of emails just like that and hope for a very small % of replies to then sell out to actual agencies. It’s how SPAM works. I personally get 10-20 of these every day – and that’s without having my actual email address listed anywhere!

Thanks so much for your reply. I know they change emails often so it won’t matter if it’s blocked. Is there any parameters I could put in my email to quarantine it but I guess that’s not a WP question.

    Thanks anyway!

No. Sorry but once your email is out there, it’s already been passed off / traded with 1,000’s of other lists and it will continue to be traded and sold with these, and many more emails about this and anything else being sent more and more. The best thing you can do is contact your email provider and ask them about SPAM protection. Nothing else will do anything to help in this situation.
